Mahindra’s upcoming 2.0-litre diesel engine will be available in three different power outputs.
Apart of the implementation of the Bharat Stage-VI (BS-VI) emission norms in India, which come into effect from April 1, 2020, all the manufactures setting up the production of BS-IV engines much before the deadline, and most are working on upgrading engines to meet the emission norms. Mahindra will introduce an all-new 2.0-litre, BS-IV, four-cylinder diesel engine, it will replace the current 2.2-litre mHawk engine.
The new 2.0-litre diesel engine will be available in three states of tune, the engine will be offered on the TUV300 Plus, next-generation of Thar, Scorpio and XUV500. The next-gen Thar likely to be tuned for 140 HP and 300 Nm torque, while the Scorpio will be offered in a slightly higher at 160 HP along with higher torque, both SUVs are expected to be launched sometime in 2020.
The XUV500 will get the healthiest among the whole at 185 HP and 400+ Nm over the current 155 HP and 360 Nm. The new engine will be an aluminum unit and it will be 80 kgs lighter than the current 2.2-litre unit, prices also see a marginal hike over the current counterparts.
